Who is Pilates for?

The beauty of Pilates is that it is ideal for people of all ages and abilities - it is flexible enough to be very challenging for those already strong, and yet gentle enough for the physically less robust.

It is particularly beneficial for:
  • Streamlining Body. Pilates exercises lengthen the muscles therefore creating a slender body shape

  • Weight Loss. There is an increase in the metabolic rate during a Pilates session, which encourages weight loss

  • Pregnancy, pre and post-natal. Pilates teaches correct breathing and body alignment with gentle exercise during pregnancy and will help you to recover your body shape and tone, inside and out, after pregnancy

  • Back problems. The emphasis on core control in Pilates helps to alleviate present back problems and helps to prevent recurrence

  • Sports Injuries, rehabilitation and prevention. Specific Pilates exercises can help to speed up the recovery time of soft tissue injuries and restrengthen weakened areas

  • People with Chronic Illnesses such as fibromyalgia, rheumatism or osteoporosis, for whom more vigorous exercise like aerobics or weight lifting is impossible due to pain and/or weakness in their muscles and joints. Since Pilates is a gentle way to exercise, these groups of people will be able to develop strength without placing too much strain on their bodies.

Whatever your current level of fitness Pilates can become your primary mode of body conditioning and injury prevention.
